Описание: The Film “GERONTAS”, by Russian documentary-filmmaker Tatiana Tarasova, won the Grand Prix Award at the International Orthodox Film Festival "Meeting" on February 20, 2017.

"Angels are a light to monks, and the monastic polity is a light to lay people” (Saint John Climacus). This ancient saying testifies to the height of the spiritual life of Monks and to the tremendous significance of Monasticism for the entire Christian world.

What is the meaning of the monastic life, which is characterized by self-denial, fasting, prayer and restraint of the flesh? What is the fruit of this strenuous labor? What is the benefit of this asceticism to the Monks themselves and to all Christians?

In the feature Film "GERONTAS", certain conclusions are reflected from the research we conducted in search of answers to these questions.
