The idea of the back-to-basics Colin Chapman-principled Lotus Elise was originally conceived in the early to mid 90's when Lotus was under Italian businessman Romano Artioli's ownership. In 1996, a star was born. The 725KG Lotus Elise S1 proved to be an instant hit with motor journalists and customers alike and kicked off a new golden era of the LotusbBrand.
