Sergey Ivanovich Polner was born in Oranienbaum on July 17 (July 29, new style), 1861. He was exiled from the USSR in 1922 and ended up in Germany. He became a professor of mathematics at the Russian gymnasium in Berlin, headed the financial department at the Vataga publishing house, then moved to Paris, where he died on July 13, 1929.
