Tackling Police Reform: "Solutions Come from the Ground Up"

We also heard inspiring and personal stories from Toni McIlwain and Sgt. Sofia Rosales-Scantena on how policing is a local issue, which makes community involvement an extremely important aspect that's essential to finding solutions. McIlwain shared her inspiration for taking action to build community engagement within her neighborhood in Detroit. "Solutions come from the ground up... The community needs to step up and become part of solutions instead of simply being seen as part of the problem," she said.
