Today I stepped back in time and cooked a full meal from a 1906 edition of Mrs. Harland’s Complete Cook Book — all on the wood cookstove.

Tucked inside the pages was a typewritten candy recipe card, and I couldn’t resist trying it. Along with that, I made pie crust using Mrs. Harland’s method (and for the first time in my life, it turned out exactly as it should), plus a simple roast chicken with herbed potatoes.
