The Contrapunto alla mente techniques used over the Cantus Firmus of the Introitus for Maundy Thursday are inspired by sources like V. Lusitano (1553) and A. P. Coclico (1552).
In the first part, the following techniques are used: 1) the cantus voice moves mostly in parallel tenths with the chant, while the middle voice alternates between perfect consonances; 2) in the words “Nostri Jesu Christe” the two added voices move mostly in tenths, but now one of them is below the chant and at the same time the notes of the upper voice are indicated by the Tenorista with the Guidonian hand; and 3) in the words “per quem salvati” one added part imitates in canon the part that is improvised by the other.
On the verse (“Deus misereatur”), the recitation is accompanied with a 4-part homophonic texture, similar to the Falsobordone.
On the repetition of “Nos autem gloriari”, one voice is added in improvised florid counterpoint, alternating sections in major and minor prolation i.e. binary and ternary division.
