Helping this gelding find relaxation. The area around the bushes is especially challenging for him especially on the upper end of it near the trailers. I just stay consistent with my relaxation and movement as we travel. When he needs to run I allow it and wait for him to relax back down into the trot. I continue this throughout the whole session until there is a change in his relaxation which takes place during the last lap.
I take the time that it takes and wait for the change. I also did this same exercise going to the right.
Signs that I am looking for, lowering of his head, rhythm and relaxation in his gait, relaxation in his muscles, soft sway in the tail, less tension in his muscles, licking his lips. I get moments of it throughout the lesson but I am waiting to get relaxation in the areas of the arena that are hard for him.
Pre requisite is 1st teaching the horse to keep traveling around you without slowing down to a lower gait or stopping.
