Sitting Bull Falls New Mexico- an Oasis in the Desert!

Описание: Sitting Bull Falls, New Mexico is truly, an Oasis in the desert! This gem is located about 1 hour from Carlsbad on the other side of the mountains from Carlsbad Caverns. This is one of my all time favorite destinations in New Mexico!

This reliable water source is found deep in the Guadalupe Mountain Range in the Lincoln National Forest. The path we took was from 285 just North of Carlsbad near Brantley Lake State Park, we turned onto highway 137 (also known as the Guadalupe Backcountry Byway). The last turn is highway 409, sitting bull falls road. This path is fully paved, but it does have several low spots that do occasionally flood, several of which look like they had been washed out.

Sitting Bull Falls recreation area is a picnic area with several hiking trails. The area has been developed quite nicely with a handicap accessible trail covered picnic tables with barbecue grills, and bathroom facilities with running water.
