During this spring I returned to my favourite, but rather tricky discipline - filming singing birds. The results are better than I expected, so I will keep you updated with new wildlife voices.

One of the soloists that kept escaping my lens is the icterine warbler (Hippolais icterina). You can probably guess that this was a great shame! However, I most often encounter these birds in environments that are not exactly friendly to filming - in the middle of village gardens. There, these five-voiced virtuosos perform to the accompaniment of barking dogs, crying children, roaring motorbikes, or local radio announcements, and making a clean recording is a bit nerve-wracking.

This year, during a trip to the Eagle Mountains, I managed to come across a male singing at dawn in a relatively quiet environment. While filming the most successful shot, a freaking hound suddenly appeared behind my back, started barking, and spoiled the recording. So although the footage didn't turn out quite ideal, it will hopefully serve to introduce one of our richest bird repertoires.
