Venosa was a joy to visit. Its a small town with around 12.000 people but rich in history and with modern town nearby. There is the Aragonese Castle, good pizza, a nice arched street (where Orso the towndog lives), a Eurospin and all the shops you can want. I bought shoes here and had some of the best pizza.
The historic town is nice to walk trough and at the end is the archeological park. Venosa was founded by Greeks (named after godess Venus), then Samnites, Romans, Hannibal (Carthage) came trough, Byzantines, raided by Saracens (arabs) then rule by Normans, Swabian (Germans) Aragonese (Spanish) before it became part of Italy. Normans with names like Drogo (if you watched Game of Thrones)
