Art Medium - Masking Fluid (for brush | pointed pen calligraphy) -- Art Tutorial On How I Use It

I recently managed to get my hands on a bottle of masking fluid and I was extremely excited to film a short tutorial for you all. Honestly, masking fluid is not a medium that is hard to work with but there is more to know if you would like to have a good experience with this medium :)

1. Which type of brushes and after care for :

Synthetic or nylon brushes work just fine but I would recommend you using an older brush, perhaps the bristles have frayed a little but still works fine as the fluid may end up ruining your favourite brush !
After every use, I wash my brush in a bottle of clean water (pour the water away after washing your masking fluid filled brush because small amounts of masking fluid can still damage your brush), but I do find that it still manages to dry and stick to the very roots of the bristles. I have found online that you can use oil based products to remove it, and someone suggested using Vaseline, which i did, and it removed the tiny sticky particles that I just couldn't remove !
Then wash it with soap water and your brush should be just fine ^^

2. Type of paper to use on :

ALWAYS remember to apply it on DRY paper, as it can penetrate the top layer of the paper and you will risk your paper being ripped a little.
As I am using it mainly for calligraphy writings and therefore the papers I use aren't always as absorbent or thick as water colour papers. So when I use it for calligraphy, try using it on water colour paper of weight at 190gsm or heavier. The paper would not buck as much as lighter weight papers would and when you remove your masking fluid, it won't rip your paper ! :)

3. Diluting the masking fluid and when can you remove it :

Perhaps you are using it for water colour paintings and you would like an extremely thin streak of white but your masking fluid is too think when you use it straight from the bottle. Add a little water to it and it'll be good to go ! But bear in mind that the more diluted it is, the longer the time needed to wait for it to completely dry.
In the video, I diluted the masking fluid so that it won't have any problems flowing down the calligraphy nib and that when i write, the upstrokes will still be able to be hairline thin ^^
ALWAYS remember to only remove it when your BACKGROUND is COMPLETELY dry ! I have tried removing it when the surface of the painting was dry but still cold (indicating there still is moisture) and my paper ripped D:
To prevent it from ripping your paper, don't remove when paper is damp and remove it gently. I have only used my fingers to remove it but you can buy soft erasers that can remove it.

4. Experiment ! And have fun :)

All in all, masking fluid really is a fun medium to use and it is extremely handy when it comes to saving 'pure white spaces' of your paper for 'highlights' or 'shine'
