Apex Body Condemn DC Leh’s Order on HAIL Land as ‘Political Witch-Hunt’
Leh: Apex Body and leaders strongly criticised the recent order issued by DC Leh regarding the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL), terming it a “witch-hunt” and an attempt to “silence voices of dissent.”
Leaders alleged that the administration failed to upgrade the lease agreement despite repeated reminders and accused it of undermining the council’s authority. They recalled that the land for HIAL was allotted in 2018–19 with the initiative of Sonam Wangchuk and in consultation with Chetsang Rinpoche, adding that over 500 students have already graduated from the institute, which follows its own model unlike conventional universities.
Calling the move “dirty politics” aimed at weakening the ongoing movement for Ladakh’s constitutional safeguards, leaders warned that such attempts would not succeed in breaking unity. “Our demand is constitutional. We will not remain silent, and any consequences will rest with those trying to suppress our voice,” they said.
