Soulful jam with the Maschine+, Hologram Microcosm, and OTO Boum

A live, semi-improvised jam, performed entirely on hardware.

I've moved into a new place and also had some hardware troubles on my main table, so I broke out the Maschine+ as a palate cleanser and as something to noodle on while sitting in my sofa chair. It's amazing, though not very glamorous, is how you can update the firmware and download new expansion packs directly from the hardware without any need of connecting to a computer or transferring files onto a memory card. Using a new expansion pack (Crate Cuts) and a few of the Maschine chord modes, I was up and running with a song idea very quickly.

And while the Maschine is excellent for sketching ideas and composing, I still wish there were a few more performance features. As such, once I started thinking about performing the song, I brought in some external help. The OTO Boum gave me drive, compression, and a low pass filter for all but the main drum group, and the Hologram Microcosm gave me some weird and interesting glitchiness for the drum interlude. Together with the Maschine+'s performance FX strip, I could finally hear the shape of the whole song. Here's hoping Native Instruments create some more performance effects soon!
