JAMUL, Calif. — A shooting in Jamul early Wednesday morning resulted in a victim being transported by private vehicle to a fire station in Alpine, where they were later pronounced dead.
The incident was reported around 12:23 a.m. on March 18, 2026, at a residence in the 16000 block of Loose Creek Road in Jamul.
According to authorities, the victim was placed into a gray Kia sedan with Georgia license plates and driven toward a hospital while someone in the vehicle remained on the phone with a 911 operator.
The driver stopped at Alpine Fire Station 17 on Tavern Road to seek medical assistance. Despite efforts to get help, the victim was pronounced dead inside the vehicle.
Deputies responding to the original scene in Jamul located blood and a blanket in the driveway, which investigators believe may be connected to where the shooting occurred.
At the fire station, family members were seen arriving shortly after the vehicle, following the victim’s transport.
Preliminary radio traffic indicated the suspect may be a cousin, though that has not been officially confirmed.
One person was detained for questioning and later released as part of the Homicide investigation.
The identity of the victim has not been released.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities say the case appears to be isolated, with no ongoing threat to the public.
