How to Clean the Sig Sauer P210 Carry (Per Sig Sauer's Owner's Manual)
Proper maintenance and regular cleaning of your Sig Sauer P210 Carry are essential for its performance and longevity. This guide, based on Sig Sauer's owner's manual, walks you through the correct steps to clean your firearm.
Step 1: Safety First – Unload the Firearm
Before beginning any cleaning process, ensure the firearm is completely unloaded.
Remove the magazine from the firearm.
Lock the slide back by pulling it rearward and engaging the slide stop.
Check the chamber visually and physically to ensure it is empty.
Step 2: Field Strip the P210 Carry
Release the Slide:
With the slide locked back, locate the slide stop lever on the left side of the firearm.
Rotate the lever downward, releasing the slide.
Ease the slide forward off the frame.
Disassemble the Slide:
Remove the recoil spring assembly and set it aside.
Remove the barrel from the slide.
Step 3: Clean the Barrel
Attach the bore brush to your cleaning rod and dip it in solvent.
Run the bore brush through the barrel several times to loosen any carbon, debris, or fouling.
Switch to a cleaning patch and push it through the barrel until it comes out clean. Use as many patches as necessary.
Lightly coat a cleaning patch with oil and run it through the barrel to protect it from rust.
Step 4: Clean the Slide
Apply cleaning solvent to a soft brush or cleaning patch and scrub the inside of the slide, paying attention to the breech face, extractor, and any carbon buildup.
Wipe down the entire slide with a clean patch or cloth to remove any remaining solvent and debris.
Use a cotton swab or small brush to clean tighter areas like the slide rails.
Step 5: Clean the Frame
Using a soft brush or cloth, clean the interior of the frame, focusing on the rails and contact surfaces where carbon buildup may occur.
Wipe down the entire frame with a clean cloth to remove any excess debris or solvent.
Step 6: Clean the Recoil Spring and Guide Rod
Wipe down the recoil spring and guide rod with a solvent-soaked cloth to remove any dirt or residue.
Dry the parts and apply a light coat of oil.
Step 7: Lubrication
Lubrication is critical to ensure smooth operation. Apply lubricant sparingly to key areas:
Barrel exterior and locking lugs: Apply a thin coat of oil.
Slide rails: Lightly oil the slide rails on both the slide and frame.
Recoil spring: Apply a small amount of oil to the spring and guide rod.
Contact points on the frame: Lightly lubricate areas where the slide contacts the frame.
Be careful not to over-lubricate, as too much oil can attract dirt and debris.
Step 8: Reassemble the Firearm
Insert the barrel back into the slide.
Reinstall the recoil spring assembly, ensuring it is seated correctly.
Align the slide with the frame and slide it back onto the rails.
Pull the slide fully to the rear and engage the slide stop lever to lock the slide in place.
Step 9: Function Check
Perform a quick function check to ensure the firearm operates smoothly after cleaning:
Rack the slide back and forth to ensure it moves smoothly along the frame.
Dry fire the firearm to confirm the trigger and firing mechanism work correctly (if allowed in your environment).
Insert an empty magazine and verify that it locks the slide open.
Step 10: Final Wipe Down
Wipe down the entire firearm with a microfiber cloth or gun cleaning cloth to remove any fingerprints, excess oil, or solvent. This will protect the finish and leave the firearm looking clean and polished.
By following these steps, you’ll ensure your Sig Sauer P210 Carry remains reliable and functions smoothly. Regular cleaning after each use or every few hundred rounds is recommended to maintain optimal performance.
