Program Description

Therapists can play a vital support role in the medical transition of their transgender and gender non-conforming clients. Clients may need a letter of support (or WPATH letters) from therapists as part of their medical transition process, but often face barriers in finding a mental health provider who is knowledgeable about this process. This training aims to equip Iowa-based mental health providers with current information and increased confidence in supporting trans clients with letters of support.

Learning Objectives:

1) Participants will learn about current policy issues affecting transgender and gender non-conforming Iowans
2) Participants will identify their roles in supporting a client's transition
3) Participants will learn the components necessary to write a WPATH-aligned letters of support for their trans and gender non-conforming clients
