The fight to protect our horses just took a hit, but the battle is far from over. Here is the latest breakdown of what happened on the Hill and what we need to do next to end horse slaughter for good.

📉 The Status Report
The Farm Bill recently passed through the Rules Committee strictly along party lines (Republicans in favor, Democrats against). Unfortunately, the SAFE Act Amendment was NOT ruled in order.
While the SAFE Act is traditionally a bipartisan effort, the numbers tell the story:
• Democrats: Usually cosponsor at a 70-90% rate.
• Republicans: Support generally sits between 25-30%.
Because it didn't make the cut this time, that specific amendment is dead—but the term isn't over, and we have other paths forward.

🛡️ Our 6-Step Action Plan
To move the needle, we are pivoting our strategy immediately:
1 GOP Horse Lovers, Stand Up: If you are a registered Republican, your voice is the most powerful tool we have right now. You need to contact your district leaders and voice your disappointment. They need to know their constituents are watching this issue closely.
2 New Committee, New Language: We are looking to get the Bill picked up in a different committee with refreshed language to overcome previous hurdles.
3 Stronger Leadership: We need "heavy hitters" from both sides of the aisle—a strong Republican and a strong Democrat—to champion this and garner true bipartisan momentum.
4 Strategic Lobbying: We’ve hit a snag with an inexperienced organization locking in an ineffective lead for equine legislation. While disappointing, it only means we have to lobby twice as hard.
5 Border State Focus: We are continuing our ground-level work in border states to intercept the pipeline.
6 Intelligence Gathering: We need your eyes and ears. If you suspect or witness illegal activity involving kill buyers, kill pens, or the BLM, reach out to us directly.
