Newhaven ("New Harbour") is situated between Leith Docks and Granton Harbour, and was once a thriving, tight-knit fishing village. The harbour has two lighthouses, the larger one is a 50 foot high octagonal cast-iron tower established in 1869, and decommissioned in 1930.
Leith has for centuries acted as the port of Edinburgh and remains one of Scotland's larger ports. The modern harbour is located in South Leith, with distinctive break-waters enclosing its entrance to the northwest.
The Royal Yacht Britannia is the former royal yacht of the British monarchy. She was in service from 1954 until 1997. Now retired from royal service, Britannia is permanently berthed at Ocean Terminal, Leith in Edinburgh, Scotland, where it is a visitor attraction with over 300,000 visits each year.
