Niton Undercliff, Blackgang Old Road and Southview Lodge 2017

Описание: Our first trek to the abandoned Blackgang Old Road/Lost Road in 2017. Very little left of Southview Lodge sadly but portions of the old road still accessible as are the chalets and stone gateposts of long gone houses. Hoping to return in the next few weeks with the map to find more. The map shows prominent/well-known sites, also of the history and dates of landslips/rockfalls. I have been researching this area for around one year (spending hours and hours and hours on my PC) so am confident in the relative accuracy of the map. Any further suggestions/alterations will be considered (with convincing evidence)! Not sure about Blackgang Chine Hotel but it appears to be the 'White House', West of Blackgang or thereabouts. Rockside Cottage at Five Rocks is now part of Blackgang Chine amusements, known as Rumpus Mansion (the last surviving Victorian building to survive the landslips in the area, apparently). I believe that the Coastguard Cottages are also part of the Chine site situated on the old road near the Chine entrance area heading East towards Windy Corner and Niton but inaccessible due to a new-ish impenetrable gate! We will be attempting to access that part of the road from the Windy Corner direction, pending cliff edges, rockfalls, time, energy and enthusiasm!!
