Welcome to our video series on the diverse pathways to work for the European institutions.
In this video, our focus will be on temporary staff.
Temporary staff members are enlisted to step in for officials or provide additional assistance to specific services, typically for a predetermined duration. This duration can range from a few months to several years. Temporary staff undertake a diverse range of roles, encompassing a wide array of responsibilities, spanning from administrative tasks to policy or data analysis, research, programming, or communication.
Temporary agents may be recruited for positions at the Assistant or Administrator level, with their status and grades determined by the specific role they undertake, their qualifications, and specializations.
Job opportunities for temporary positions are advertised on the EU Careers job opportunities page. Such positions can also be found directly on the websites of various EU bodies, including the EU Commission, the EU Agency for the Space Programme, the European Union Agency for Criminal (Eurojust), or the European Centre for Disease Prevention & Control.
The selection process for temporary positions may be organised directly by the institutions or agencies or delegated to EUCareers. The Call for Expressions of Interest serves as the reference document, outlining the job profile, eligibility criteria, and the selection process.
Interims may also be considered part of the temporary staff, although the recruitment process differs, as interims do not apply directly to EU recruiting services. Instead, they must go through a temporary agency. The selection process varies, as the ultimate employer is the temporary agency.
For those interested in pursuing a role as a temporary agent within the EU, we recommend following the pages of the specific EU institutions or agencies of interest on Linkedin or Facebook, as they regularly post job vacancies when they become available.
