The BECA-530 Advanced Audio Production class at San Francisco State University was required to re-design all of the sounds for any short film we wanted. We chose the Award-Winning Short Film by Carlos Baena, "La Noria" which can be viewed here:

Our class only had one semester, almost 3 months, to accomplish this task. With the film running at exactly 10 minutes and 41 seconds, everyone came together to record foley On-Site, perform human and monster vocals, as well as record ambiances and spaces for every scene. We not only recorded these sounds in our school's studio, but everyone took the extra time to acquire field recordings for whatever and wherever we needed.

I decided to compose the score at home with Ableton Live, using a variety of Software Instruments as well as live acoustic guitar recordings. This is my first official score for a short film and I look forward to making many more.

I could not have asked for a more capable and passionate group of students to work with. Many overtime hours were needed to finalize our edits and our team worked tirelessly day after day to deliver the best results.

***Since I created this device in Ableton, I had to use the incredibly versatile and essential Max4Live Device known as the Keyswitch and Expression Mapper. You can efficiently create preset Keyswitch and expression maps for any virtual instrument you want, which allows you full control of all parameters and Keyswitches in the arrangement view.
