Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today, we've got a utility trailer, and we're gonna be replacing the idler hubs on it with the etrailer.com Easy Grease idler hubs. Now for this particular trailer, we decided to go with the new idler hubs, because we we inchesre gonna have to replace the rear seal, which is what you have to do anyway if you're going to check and repack your bearings. We we inchesre gonna have to repack the bearings, check for damage. These have not been changed in quite some time, so what we did was just went ahead and ordered the whole new assembly, so that we didn't run into any issues when pulling everything apart. They're gonna have a galvanized finish on them to help resist against rust and corrosion.
The bolt pattern is going to be a five on 4 1/2, so be sure to check your trailer. We've got plenty of other kits on our website if yours does not match up with that. Last thing we want to talk about before we jump into what comes in the kit and then show you how to get them installed is that these are going to be for 3,500 pound axles. Again, if your axle is not 3,500 pounds or the hubs specifically are not 3,500 pounds that you're taking off, you can check our website and find the ones that are supposed to fit your trailer. And what this kit's gonna come with is you're gonna get the idler hub, this cap, the plug that goes on the end, you're gonna get the outer bearing and the inner bearing.
You'll get the inner seal. The only things that you're not gonna get that you will have to reuse are going to be the nut that's on the outside, the washer and the nut retainer. So you want to keep all that stuff when you go to pull your old stuff off. We will show you a little bit more in the installation, but you might end up needing a new retaining washer if you have any wear and tear on yours. As far as the installation goes, I plan on walking you through the entire installation, but if you don't feel comfortable doing this at home, please check out our dealer locator and find a dealer closest to you that can get this done for you.
To begin our installation, you're gonna need to take your wheel and tire off, and that'll get us down to actually the hub itself. So for our particular wheel and tire combo here, it's going to be a 3/4 inch socket to zip these off. (tool buzzing) We've got the wheel and tire off. And if you notice on the wheel itself, you can see a little bit of grease coming out the end. And with it off, there's clearly an issue going on here, whether it's this cap leaking, which it looks like it is, this rubber seal here or cap is leaking, a little bit of grease out.
We're gonna be replacing that too, 'cause the new kit that we're putting on will come with a new one. So we'll take a screwdriver, just a flathead. If you have a little tiny a crowbar, those work great for back here. But if you don't, chances are you're gonna have a flathead screwdriver. (hammer loudly tapping) We're gonna tap this in. (hammer loudly tapping) Get behind little lip there and it was working along the edge, twisting the screwdriver to pop this off. We're gonna take a paper towel and wipe off as much of this old grease as we can. Just makes it a little bit cleaner and see our nut retainers under there. So we'll grab our flathead screwdriver, slide it in here, again, just give it a little bit of a twist. That'll pop right off. We're gonna save this. And then our nut, if it is installed correctly, should only be hand tight anyway, so. And then found out it is. We'll back it off. And all these components that we're saving will get cleaned up and get ready to put back on. And we'll grab our hub. Gonna take your hand. If you put it around the end of this, it'll help you catch that bearing. Because our kit comes with new bearings, we're not really worried about saving it, but if a bearing ever hits the ground, you cannot reuse it. (metal rattling) On the backside of this, that is where our seal is at. You can see here that the seal is not doing too hot. So it looks like there was a little bit of grease leaking out of the backside too. It's a good time to do any inspection on your spindle, on the components that you're gonna be saving. So we know that our castle nut retainer was fine. Our spindle, we're gonna wipe that off here in a little bit. You want to check the washer,
