If your KitchenAid pantry drawer light is out or the control panel isn’t responding, the wire harness is a common failure point.
In this video, I diagnose and replace the pantry drawer wire harness on a KitchenAid KRMF706ESS refrigerator.
Main description:
This pantry drawer uses a touch-sensitive control panel with multiple presets for different storage modes, including meat/fish, cold drinks, greens/herbs, deli/cheese, and thaw/marinate. When the light went out and the button stopped responding, I traced the issue back to the wiring harness that flexes every time the drawer opens and closes.
In this video, I walk through how I diagnosed the problem, safely disassembled the refrigerator to access the harness, and replaced it with the updated part. I also show a continuity test on the failed harness after removal — out of five wires, four were completely broken.
This is a real-world repair and a known weak point on these refrigerators, especially after a few years of use.
