Basic Concrete Mix Ratio

Описание: A good basic concrete mix ratio is a 1: 2: 3 mix design (1 cement: 2 sand: 3 aggregate). There are different mix ratios and aggregate options for different types of concrete projects, but a standard 1: 2: 3 mix design would make a good mix for almost any project and will make a strong finished concrete product.

Make your own concrete mix starting with one part regular portland cement. It is often called Type G or GU (general use), or Type N (normal) in most areas. Add two parts sand. Sand for a concrete mix should be clean, free of debris and of a masonry grade (sharp sand - not tumbled). Play sand should not be used for making concrete because it has been tumbled and the jagged edges have been softened in the process. The jagged edges of sharp sand give the cement something to bind to for good adhesion.

The most common aggregate for a concrete mix design is gravel. There are many different types of concrete aggregates - gravel, perlite, pumice, vermiculite, peat moss, etc. Using aggregates like perlite or peat moss makes lightweight concrete. Whatever the aggregate is in your concrete mix, three parts of it is added to the mix.

This basic concrete mix design is a good standard mix for most concrete projects, and allows you to work on all kinds of DIY projects. It can also save money on larger projects as buying the base materials in bulk is much more cost effective than buying pre-mixed bags of concrete (with cement, sand and aggregates all measured and mixed for you) from your local hardware store or concrete supply store.
