Let’s explore four of our favorites today…
1️⃣ Thatch Roofing: Crafted from locally-sourced Alang-Alang grass, this traditional technique has been used across the Indonesian archipelago for centuries. We love it for shading our Bamboo Yurts at the Kul Kul Farm!
2️⃣ Bamboo Shingles (Sirap): Hand-carved from bamboo splits, these shingles are ideal for curvy structures. They guide rainwater away while adding a unique touch to our designs with their elegant shape.
3️⃣ Flattened Bamboo (Pelupuh): Lightweight and versatile, these strips cover various building forms beautifully. We’ve even used it in our new Dapur Barong kitchen!
4️⃣ Copper Shingles: These often require a higher initial investment, but they’re SO worth it! They have excellent durability for long-term structures and develop a gorgeous patina over time.
