Realized I hadn't covered how I go about "weeding" and/or composting yet, so just wanted touch on those topics, including how I manage both of these objectives around my gardens (with or without livestock!)

The ideal C:N goal for a happy compost pile is 30:1.
With that in mind, here are some average Carbon:Nitrogen ratios
(found in commonly composted materials)
dry leaves 40-80:1
coffee grounds 20:1
garden weeds 20-35:1
grass clippings 20-35:1
kitchen scraps 10-50:1
hay 10-25:1
straw 50-150:1
chicken poo 10:1
woody plants 200-1000+:1
