Here's one of those situations where someone in a corporate marketing department has seen your work--the four-spot "It's Personal" campaign for the same bank a year earlier--and thinks that they have a concept for an even better campaign. The better idea, however, was not much more than a nebulous concept that the marketing person, who had little experience in video story-telling, can define. It's an example of taking a whole lot of video coverage and transforming it--with the help of music and graphics--into a news story-type message.
I directed the location shoot in as much as it could be directed, arranged for the chase boat, and supervised the editing. I also chose the sound effects and stock music track and wrote the titles.
The spot cost as much to produce as the four-spot campaign from the previous year and more than was raised by the fishing tournament, and it was never shown on the air. And that's no fishing story.
