There are 35 S&P 500 stocks reporting earnings on Thursday, January 29, and in this video I walk through eight names that offer a broad preview of where different parts of the market currently stand.
This earnings stock preview focuses on price action through a longer-term lens — specifically, observing where price sits within its most recent advance or decline. That perspective helps frame risk and avoid forcing trades during earnings volatility.
In this walkthrough, you’ll see:
• How recent advances and declines shape earnings behavior
• Why long-term price perspective matters more than short-term noise
• How price, timing, and momentum help frame risk heading into earnings
If you want to learn how to read price, timing, and momentum together using a repeatable framework, I’m reteaching the Four Zones RSI Coverage System live this week.

🔍 Highlights
1️⃣ Apple (AAPL)
Apple experienced a strong uptrend into early December and has been pulling back since. When I step back and look at the most recent long-term advance, the pullback itself isn’t surprising — but I don’t like that price reached deep into the Bear Support Power Zone and has not been able to clear the January 14 high. That combination keeps downside risk in play, with the September 10 low acting as the next meaningful area of support.
2️⃣ KLA Corp (KLAC)
KLAC continues to trend cleanly higher, filling in to the right in an orderly fashion. This is a great example of when not to force new trades. As long as price remains above the January 23 low, the uptrend remains intact. A break below that level would open the door to a pullback toward the January 8 low, but until then, the structure stays constructive.
3️⃣ Visa (V)
Visa shows a clear long-term decline from the June high into November, and despite a recent surge higher, price is still operating near those lows. From a bigger-picture perspective, this looks more like consolidation within a broader downtrend. A push back toward the November 18 low would not be surprising before any sustained recovery attempt.
4️⃣ Mastercard (MA)
Mastercard remains a beaten-down name, with a well-defined series of lower highs shaping the downtrend. There is still room for price to work lower toward the April 2025 range, with the midpoint near the $483 area. For traders who track stocks that have been heavily pressured for potential recovery plays later, this is one to monitor — but for now, the downtrend remains in control unless price reclaims the January 26 high.
5️⃣ Comcast (CMCSA)
Comcast has recovered off the October 30 low, but the bounce has stalled beneath the Bear Resistance Power Zone and below the old August bottom. A move below the January 16 low would help confirm another leg lower and potentially present a near-term downside opportunity.
6️⃣ Caterpillar (CAT)
Caterpillar continues to trend higher after putting in a December 17 low and remains one of the stronger cyclical names. When I look at the larger advance that began in early April 2025, this move still appears to have room to run. As long as price holds above that December 17 low, the path of least resistance remains higher, with the $700 round-number level acting as a logical upside reference.
7️⃣ Blackstone (BX)
Blackstone has rolled over from the January 16 high following a clean RSI Power Zones setup. I’m reteaching the Four Zones RSI Coverage System live this week with major updates, so this one jumped out from the chart! From here, the structure favors a move lower toward the November 19 low. Until price can reclaim that January high, downside pressure remains the dominant theme.
8️⃣ Lockheed Martin (LMT)
On a weekly chart, Lockheed Martin has been trending strongly higher, with the recent pullback bringing price back into the October 2024 range. On the daily chart, price is trading within a holding zone where existing positions can continue to be managed with the broader trend in mind. Traders without a position may want to monitor how price behaves in this range before considering new entries.
