A replica section of the Titanic has been unveiled at the dock where the ship was built in east Belfast.

The bow of the ship, which sank on its maiden voyage in 1912, has been recreated at the Titanic Dock and Pumphouse at Queen's Island for a forthcoming television series on the ill-fated liner.

The project was supported by the Northern Ireland Science Park.

Mervyn Watley from the Park said the lure of the Titanic remains as strong as ever.

"The bow is going to stay here at the Science Park at Titanic Dock and pump house, along with the dock, the gate and the pumps and all of the original authentic pieces that go back to the days of Titanic engineering and here's now something physical which helps demonstrate the scale and the attraction of Titanic," he said.

The replica was built using original shipbuilding techniques and is about a third of the size of the Titanic's bow.

Brendan Walker Project Engineer said it was a difficult process.

"It has been long and gruelling. We have had to use cranes, lifting techniques but then also, a lot of manpower has been involved," he said.

"We've got 3,5000 rivets to put in so first of all it's like a big mechano kit, piecing it together, getting screws in place but then the real hard work is trying to get these rivets placed and set. It has been really quite hard."
