Описание: 🌊 Trishuli Hydropower Station – Nepal’s First Peaking Run-of-River Power Plant

Located in Nuwakot District on the banks of the Trishuli River, the Trishuli Hydropower Station is a historic milestone in Nepal’s electricity generation. Built in 1967 with support from the Government of India, the plant started with a capacity of 21 MW and was later upgraded to 24 MW (7 units × 3.5 MW each).

---

⚙️ Key Technical Facts

Type: Peaking run‑of‑river plant (semi‑reservoir)

Hydraulic Head: ~51.4 m

Annual Generation: ~163–304 GWh (design capacity: 163 GWh; FY 2021/22: 137 GWh)

Ownership & Operation: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA)

---

🚧 Renovation & Modernization

1995: Upgraded to 24 MW

2023: Major renovation began with:

New bypass canal (1,200 m, 50 m³/s) to avoid reservoir sedimentation

Modern equipment for higher efficiency

Target to maintain generation during restoration works

---

🌊 Cascade Projects on Trishuli River

Along the Trishuli River, several cascade projects support Nepal’s grid:

1. Devighat Hydropower Station (14.1 MW) – Commissioned 1984; takes water from Trishuli tailrace.

2. Upper Trishuli 3A (60 MW) – Commissioned 2019; supports peak demand in Kathmandu; built with Chinese financing.

---

🚀 Upper Trishuli‑1 Hydropower Project

Nepal’s upcoming mega project on the same river:

Capacity: 216 MW (3 × 72 MW Francis turbines)

Annual Output: ~1,533 GWh (≈ 20% national generation)

Location: Rasuwa District (~70 km north of Kathmandu)

Investment: US $647 M (financed by IFC, ADB, AIIB, KOEN, KIND, KOICA, NEA)

Design: 2.1 ha diversion dam → 2 intake tunnels → ~9.8 km headrace tunnel → underground powerhouse

Operation Model: 35‑year BOOT; electricity sold to NEA via 30‑year PPA

---

🌏 Impact on Nepal’s Energy

Reduces load-shedding risk in dry season

Boosts clean energy share in the grid

Strengthens Kathmandu power supply during peak demand

Supports economic growth through stable electricity
