In his acceptance of the 2025 ICFJ Knight International Journalism Award, journalist César Batiz emphasized how Venezuelans are resisting growing authoritarianism. Batiz, the co-founder and director of innovative media outlet El Pitazo, also praised the resilience of Venezuelan journalists working under incredibly difficult conditions. “We have not given up. We have been resilient and innovative to reach audiences, both online and offline,” he said. "We have trained new generations of journalists, and we have built alliances to protect each other against the regime."
