​In the 991.2, Porsche replaced the fixed grilles of previous generations with these motorized louvers. They serve two masters: Drag and Temperature.
​Aerodynamic Efficiency: At speeds above 15 km/h (approx. 9 mph), the flaps close to smooth out airflow over the nose, reducing drag and improving fuel economy.
​Thermal Control: They aren't just "on" or "off." The system sets the flaps to various positions depending on the cooling needs of the engine and the AC system.
