Awhina said her sister Cleo was “genuinely surprised” to discover she and Adrian were still together after the wild confrontation.

She said, “After Friends and Family [Week], I contacted work, I told them I could return to work the following week. I’d spoken to my mum, I’d spoken to friends that were helping with my son’s after-school sports. I’d 110% committed to going back home, so when I made the decision to stay, it was definitely a shock to family and friends that I was in touch with him.”

Adrian’s former friend Jasmin, who issued a public statement before her episode aired claiming that she and Adrian were no longer friends, said she’d also apologised to Awhina and Cleo.

Awhina said, “It’s funny that, you know, the way she announced it to the world, and the apology given to Cleo and I was only a few days prior to that episode airing.”

Awhina claims Jasmin had clearly watched the episodes and seen how Adrian’s character was being perceived and made the call to apologise publicly to “save face”.

She said, “And I do 110% believe that if it had looked a lot different, an apology never would have been extended to Cleo and I. It was definitely to save face, and she’s gone, ‘Okay, well, Adrian’s being portrayed as a villain, and I need to… really show a strong stance of where I stand with him’, and that’s not okay.”

She added, “If you’re saying your relationship had broken up because he wasn’t XYZ… if you know all these things about him, where was my message two, three months ago? Where was that apology two, three months ago? It didn’t exist.”
