The set contains 5 tube sections with the finger holes and one mouth piece section with the utaguchi part. The mouth piece section is connected by slotting the connecting finger holes section into place. For easier dis-assembly I found that e.g. applying instrument greases before assembing the parts is useful.

The  set contents make it possible to assemble and play 5 different PVC shakuhachi lengths ranging from 2.3 (key of Bb) to 2.9 (key of Gb). The variety of lengths/keys are particular suitable to  play honkyoku (the traditional solo repertoire of the Japanese shakuhachi) , as the lower tuning resonates well with the meditative and reflective nature of the honkyoku music compositions and concepts.

The quick assembly of the different lengths make it possible to explore various keys and playing moods and the compact nature of the set makes it ideal for traveling too,. In particular when you don't want to take your precious bamboo shakuhachi into challenging climates or situations. The sturdy plastic is tolerant against cold, rain and sun. Utaguchi/mouthpiece top features comfortable chin rest as it is fairly close to the traditional shakuhachi measurements.
