Pre 1980's, Louis Vuitton didn't use datecodes, but with the rise of fakes, they began using them in 1982. Prior to that, Louis Vuitton also outsourced their zippers, so you'll see zippers that read 'Eclair' or 'Talon'. These are usually good indicators that your vintage bag is authentic, but shouldn't be relied on solely for authentication. Other factors like stitching, pattern & material are also important.
