Questa specie vive tra scogliere rocciose, grotte e spaccature, affidandosi al mimetismo e a brevi scatti di potenza più che alla velocità. Un approccio efficace inizia con un’entrata silenziosa, una respirazione controllata e una discesa lenta e rilassata. Sul fondo, il pescatore in apnea deve restare basso, utilizzare la copertura naturale e muoversi con pazienza. Movimenti improvvisi o un linguaggio del corpo nervoso spingeranno il pesce più in profondità nella tana, mentre una presenza calma spesso ne stimola la curiosità.
