In this tutorial I will show you how to fill, stack and crumb coat a sponge cake with American Buttercream.
This is a perfect beginners video, if you are just starting out on your cake decorating journey, or new to working with American buttercream.
I am crumb coating one of my standard 4 layered 6" cakes, and therefore I place it onto a 10" cake board. My rule is, the board needs to be at least 4" bigger than the cake, depending on decorations.
I use my own version of an American buttercream frosting. The recipe for this comes with any of my paid tutorials on my website:

However, a standard American Buttercream recipe is as follows:
2:1 ratio for Icing Sugar: Butter
Vanilla Extract/Essence
To make sure you start with an even cake, do level/torte our cake layers. This can be done via a knife or a cake leveller. There are lots available on the market, ranging from a couple of pound, all the way up to hundreds of pounds. If you are doing a lot of cakes, then investing in a more substantial cake leveller such as an AGBAY is definitely worth it.

Cake Comb - to be honest I can't remember where I purchased this, but you can get a variety of combs from places like eBay, Amazon and all the cake decorating sites. It really depends on your budget as to where you purchase them.
