Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has confirmed that General Electric (GE Aerospace) will deliver 20 F404-IN20 engines in the second half of 2026, with the 6th engine already ready for delivery.

This is a crucial development for the HAL Tejas Mk1A program, which was facing delays due to engine shortages. Several aircraft were already built and even test-flown, but were waiting for engines.

With these upcoming deliveries:
• Tejas Mk1A production will accelerate
• Aircraft integration and testing will speed up
• Deliveries to the Indian Air Force are expected to begin soon

HAL and GE are also working to stabilize the supply chain, with future plans targeting 24 engines in FY 2026-27 and 30 engines annually from 2027-28 onwards.

This marks a turning point for India’s defense manufacturing and strengthens the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat in aerospace.
