Today we're talking about the steps to prepare for your F1 Visa Interview. We will cover what documents to carry, how to organize them, what to wear, and other essential details to maximize your chances of getting your F1 Visa.

Let's dive into today's topic – F1 Visa Interview Preparation.

First things first - Get Organized.

In the last year or two, you've done a lot - taken tests, applied to different universities, filled out many forms, and provided a ton of documentation.

Now imagine that the Visa Officer asks you to give them one of these many documents. You don't want to fumble, get distracted, and ruin your chances of getting your Student Visa. Even worse, you don't want to miss carrying a document that you should have brought. It will likely result in getting a 221(g), which is a visa rejection.

The solution is simple - get organized. That way, you're relaxed and focused on your interview. If the Visa officer asks you to provide documents, you can provide them quickly and leave a positive impression.

To begin with, you need an organizer. We like document organizers such as these, with sections you can label. Be sure to invest in one that will last you for years. You will need to carry it with you for multiple uses –  Travel, US Immigration, University orientation sessions, etc.

Now let's review the documents you need to bring with you. According to the US Department of State, the following are the required documents:

1. Passport
2. DS-160 Confirmation Page
3. Application Fee Payment Receipt
4. A physical photo, which measures 2 inches x 2 inches, only if the photo didn't upload with your DS-160. This is highly uncommon.
5. Form I-20. Most applicants will be single. If your spouse and/or children intend to live with you, bring their I-20s also.

US Department of State also provides a secondary list. It recommends:
• Academic documents include your transcripts, test scores, degrees, and diplomas.
• Financial documents

They also list 'Your intent to depart the United States upon completion of the course of study. In other words, they're asking for a plane ticket. It does not apply to F1 Visa applicants as most airlines don't even sell tickets that far into the future. Most F1 visa applicants buy a one-way ticket, so don't worry about it. If it comes up in the interview, you can let the Visa officer know that you will purchase one when the airlines start selling them.

Those were all the documents that the US Department of State recommends. However, based on our experience, we recommend carrying all the documents you have gathered during your University Application process. Those will include letters of admission, scholarship or financial aid documents, student loan documents, bank statements, sponsorship letters, etc. Additionally, carry all your current and past passports. Folks with dual citizenship will have multiple active passports and should carry them all.

Organize the documents in the folder we recommended earlier. Label different sections so you can locate your document quickly. Your goal should be to find any requested document within 10 seconds.

Everyone has a different organizational style, so we encourage you to use the one that works best for you.

A trick to ensure that you're not taking too long is to say this out loud, "I have it with me. Give me a quick moment while I look for it." You should start looking for your document while saying this phrase or something similar. That way, you keep the conversation going and don't waste time. Remember, Visa Officers place emphasis on the conversation more than the documents.
