"The Islamic Republic of Iran deeply regrets this disastrous mistake. My thoughts and prayers go to all the mourning families. I offer my sincerest condolences," tweeted Iranian President Hassan Rouhani after the country's military mistakenly shot down a Ukrainian airplane, killing all 176 aboard. "Investigations continue to identify and prosecute this great tragedy and unforgivable mistake," he said. Announcing the preliminary results of the investigation, Iran's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif described the incident as "human error at time of crisis caused by U.S. adventurism."
