A baby Bonobo monkey rejected by his mother and raised by zookeepers in Germany was on Tuesday presented to the public.
Baby Sambo's was bottle fed by Andrea Knott, wife of zoo keeper Carsten Knott, after his mother Zomi rejected it because she did not have enough milk to feed him.
It's hoped that the little monkey can now be reintroduced into Frankfurt zoo's enclosure, a difficult process since bottle feeding can be problematic, especially for great apes.
Adult apes can not be integrated into the group anymore and live an atypical single life, so the zoo is trying to get Bonobo grandma Margit to adopt and take Sambo to the bars at feeding time so he can get bottle-fed by the zoo wardens.
Sambo, which means "the seventh" in Lingala, one of 4 languages spoken in Congo, was given the name after being born on the 7th of January 2012.
Bonobo monkeys were previously called pygmy-chimpanzees and are found in a part of Congo called the Congo basin.
They are threatened by extinction.
