This is a follow up video to "The Real Reason Why Heavy Metal is Dead". I go on location to Digbeth, Birmingham UK, the former industrial heart of the city, and the place where Heavy Metal music was born. However, most of the area is now derelict (or else the buildings have been repurposed).
Some places have been given over (by local council or private enterprise) to local artists to create murals, etc. However, the graffiti on the derelict buildings is largely unimaginative and increasingly banal! One person scaled the top of a disused factory and wrote the word "Vimto", which is the name of an English fruit flavoured soda (?)
So, gone are the days when people used to write "Clapton is God", or song lyrics, or the names of the favourite bands and football teams.
It becomes clear that Heavy Metal, alongside, Post Punk and Post Rock have run their course.
Hence, following on from my previous video about Digbeth, I show you how an increasingly vapid music culture is creating an equally vacuous status amongst modern youth culture.
