The Butterfly Conservatory is located in a little village surrounded by nature, close to the shores of Lake Arenal, the Cloud Forest Reserves, and the Arenal National Park.
Our Mission is to develop, and promote the support of environmental education and sustainable development, while demonstrating the natural regeneration of rainforest habitat, growing the plants and trees which allows the diversity of animals and creatures to habitat this area again, with a focus on the Butterfly’s and Frog’s native to the Arenal area.
We maintain over 1000 butterflies of over 30 different species natural to the Arenal rainforest. Here you will see them flying within our four Ecological Habitat Atriums, along with numerous species of exotic rain forest frogs that we also raise and release.
Here we are regenerating land that was cut from the rainforest 60 years ago for cattle ranching, into a Nature Learning Center on rainforest species in Costa Rica.
