Aylsham Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Описание: Located in the county of Norfolk, and around 10 miles north of Norwich, is the town of Aylsham.

Geographically, Aylsham is situated along the River Bure, on the northwestern fringe of the Norfolk Broads. The first recorded reference to a market here dates back to the late 13th century.

At the heart of the town is the Parish Church of St Michael and All Angels. This dates back to the 14th century, with 15th century additions and some 19th century restoration. John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, and lord of the manor here, was responsible for much of its initial construction. The church is Grade I listed.

Historic industries associated with the town include wool and linen weaving. The production of worsted cloth brought prosperity in the medieval era, the name of which originates from the nearby village of Worstead. Also of note is Aylsham's proximity to Blickling Hall just over a mile away. This has been home to several notable former residents including the Boleyn family and the Hobart family, and is today owned by the National Trust.

In 1880 the first of two former railway stations in Aylsham opened, followed by a second in 1883. These closed to passengers in 1952 and 1959 respectively. In 1990 a heritage railway station opened in the town, which today is the northwestern terminus of the Bure Valley Railway which connects to Wroxham, running on special occasions. In terms of regular public transport, the town is served by direct buses to and from Norwich, Sheringham, Cromer, Reepham, North Walsham and various other nearby locations.
