Camarasaurus vs. Mamenchisaurus: Sauropod Giants Side by Side!

Описание: Get a rare look at two long-necked legends, Camarasaurus and Mamenchisaurus, on display together, showing off their striking differences in size and build!

The dark orange, really long neck in the background of the opening scene belongs to a cast of #Mamenchisaurus.

The #Camarasaurus in front of it has a gigantic (for a sauropod) skull. It is currently under study, and I am eager to see the results of their work. I spent a bunch of time lovingly staring at this one. The skull is on display underneath the neck. A recent paper comparing traditional CT to new photon-counting CT use this skull to show the latter is better (as long as one has the budget and skill to read the output).

#Brachiosaurus dominates the skyline, yet this is the first room I have been in where it doesn’t look overwhelmingly large. That is a testament to the massive size and scale of the building (which reminds me of a snow globe) that houses these incredible dinosaurs.

#Bellusaurus is visible along the front row, alas a sign covers part of it in this video. It is a cool small-sized sauropod from China.

There are three sauropod skulls on display, a #diplodocine, #Nigersaurus, and #Giraffatitan. These wildly different skulls highlight the disparate feeding mechanisms deployed by my favorite vertebrates.

In the far back, at the end of the video, is the little juvenile #sauropod that a paper described as a brachiosaur based, in part, on posterior dorsal centrum elongation. However, to me, the majority of the skeleton looks #diplodocid, #apatosaurine even: The trouble with working on juvenile #sauropods is ontogeny, combined with a paucity of specimens to compare it to. I need to touch the original specimen. I wonder if it has been CT scanned.

Seeing all these giant sauropods in one spot made my day. The Fukui Museum, if you like dinosaurs, is a bucket list destination!
