👉 Synopsis:
Based on a true story from the American Civil War, Johnnie Gray (Buster Keaton) is a Southern locomotive engineer who has two loves: his engine, "The General," and the beautiful Annabelle Lee (Marion Mack). When Union spies steal the General with Annabelle on board, Johnnie embarks on a relentless and heroic pursuit behind enemy lines. A perfect blend of historical accuracy, breathtaking action, and timeless physical comedy.

💡 Trivia:
The Bridge Stunt: The scene where a real locomotive crashes through a burning bridge into a river was the single most expensive shot in silent film history ($42,000 in 1926). The wreckage remained in the river for decades as a tourist attraction.
Historical Accuracy: Keaton insisted on authentic costumes and props, using real locomotives from the era (The General and The Texas) to ensure the film looked like a Civil War photograph come to life.
A Slow Burn Success: Although it was a commercial failure upon its release, The General is now ranked by the American Film Institute as one of the 100 greatest movies of all time.
