The washing machine door was stuck closed.
The washing machine door can be blocked closed either because of a problem with the door latch or worse when the interlock inside the washing machine is stuck closed.

In this video I show you how to replace the interlock on your washing machine. see the replacement washer interlock part.
Compare the old interlock with the new one as size and electrical specifications may differ.

When I bought it and even while recording these videos I didn’t notice the opening of the interlock was smaller on the old one and bigger on the new Interlock part.

The MetalFlex interlock was the same specifications and only the holder was bigger so I swapped the interlock parts.

I use the interlock support holder from the old interlock that matches the washing machine and the actual interlock part - MetalFlex from the new part.

Like this I was able to install the new interlock in the washing machine and it works perfectly.
The interlock ban be bypassed if you don’t have a replacement interlock part available but you should replace it asap for safety as the reason to have the interlock is to block the washer door and not allow the washing machine door to be opened during operation.

You can easily open a washer door when the door latch breaks by using a string as I show in another video but if the string method doesn’t work, it’s probably the latch also called interlock inside the washer that’s broken.
The washing machine interlock, blocks the door latch while the washer is in operation and it releases the door lock when the program is finished.

If the interlock is back it either doesn’t lock the door and the washer doesn’t start or it locks but won’t unlock after.

You have to open the top of the washing machine to access the interlock or access it from below the washing machine in some cases.

The interlock has a safety release tab that when pressed from inside, it will manually release the interlock but that’s not easy to access on some models.
