Fishing at The Wherry? This video will give you a quick look at how to get to it and what to expect.
The Wherry is an old quarry workings where shallow bottomed boats would ferry the quarry materials out to the nearby ports of Tyne and Sunderland.
Fishing here can be rewarding but locally, it's known as a bit hit and miss. You can catch some well sized Cod, Coalfish, Pollack and Flatfish but you will no doubt end up seeing the notorious Whiting more than once here.
Ragworm, Lugworm and Mussel are popular here although squid and cart are also very effective sea fishing baits found in the tackle boxes of local fisherfolk.
