Abraham Feinberg (1899–1986) was an American rabbi, singer, activist and writer. His long and fruitful career was marked by his fight against antisemitism and racism, his concern for the poor and disadvantaged, his support to the Civil Rights Movement and his protests against the Vietnam War.
On 1 June 1969 he met John Lennon and Yoko Ono in their room at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, Canada. He sang along with other voices in the chorus of the hit-single "Give Peace A Chance" (Lennon even mentions "rabbis" in the lyrics, a clear allusion to Feinberg). He and Lennon became close; this relationship made Feinberg realize that he missed singing, an activity that he did full-time for a number of years during his rabbinate.
At Lennon's encouragement, Feinberg recorded in 1969 an album titled "I Was So Much Older Then", released by Vanguard in 1970. It includes covers of songs by Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young and The Bee Gees, among others.
