After a few days, it rained. The air was cool and fresh, and sunlight streamed through the scattered clouds onto the farm. Fariba woke up early in the morning, feeling more energetic than ever. The sound of the last drops dripping from the gutter was, to her, a sign of the beginning of a busy day. She tied her scarf tightly and walked quickly into the yard to check on everything. First, she went to the water channel, which had been hidden beneath mud and piled-up leaves. Using a small shovel and her own hands, she cleared the path so the water could flow properly across the land. Then she brought a ladder and attended to the roof; a few tiles had shifted and needed to be fixed before the next rainfall. At that moment, she noticed that some water had seeped in through a corner and collected inside the house. One corner of the room had become damp. Fariba patiently took care of the problem. Once she felt at ease about the house, she headed to Dora Farm. The Nasro family had gone to the city, and Fariba, together with her grandmother, took care of the farm. The rain may have brought some troubles, but for Fariba, it was a new beginning for work, hope, and life.
